Cluster Munition Monitor 2026

The new Cluster Munition Monitor 2026 reveals an alarming trend: in 2025, at least 1,063 people worldwide were killed or injured by cluster munitions. Almost 90% of the casualties were civilians.

The situation is particularly severe in Ukraine, where at least 927 casualties were recorded, accounting for around 87% of all documented casualties worldwide. Cluster munitions also continue to be used in other conflicts. In 2025 and the first half of 2026, their use was confirmed by Iran, Myanmar, Russia, Thailand and Ukraine, among others.

Beyond their current use, unexploded cluster munition remnants pose a long-term threat. 29 countries and territories remain contaminated. At the same time, declining international funding is making it more difficult to clear contaminated areas and provide support to affected communities.

The Cluster Munition Monitor 2026 once again underlines the importance of the international ban on cluster munitions, the systematic clearance of contaminated areas and continued assistance to victims.
