Homage to Christian Schmidt

I was deeply saddened by the sudden departure of Christian in April 2025. He was a member of the World Without Mines Foundation Board for 10 years. The people we support with our commitment live with mines or are injured by them. Christian treated them with great respect and empathy in his interviews. He wanted to make their stories visible to us, but without offending their dignity. Christian was a modest, sensitive and thoughtful person. He never pushed himself to the limelight. However, when we discussed a topic at length on the Foundation Board, he would suddenly come out of his shell and share his opinion clearly.

During my time as President of the World Without Mines Foundation, I always noticed his support for our concerns. I appreciated him very much and I wish to thank him.

Claudine Bolay, Founder of the foundation

The journalist, copywriter for NPOs and author Christian Schmidt, born in 1955, died in April 2025 after years of battling cancer. As his debut on the Foundation Board, he wrote «All my bombs», a text about how we can be responsible for cluster bombs without our knowledge. The moving text «What is a person worth?» describes what perfidious weapons mines are.
